Do you enjoy hanging out with nonjudgmental people in a safe and fun environment? Are you looking for a way to positively impact your school and community? Maybe it’s time you joined YWCA Hanover’s Youth Leadership Council. We are a group of 7-12 graders who are committed to making a difference through leadership and advocacy.
Our council members collaborate on meaningful projects addressing important community issues. Through monthly meetings, community initiatives, and our popular Teen Night Out events, we develop valuable skills while creating positive change.
As a YLC member, you’ll have opportunities to:
- Build leadership and communication abilities
- Organize educational awareness campaigns
- Network with community leaders and professionals
- Earn volunteer service hours for college applications

What We’re Working On
The Youth Leadership Council (YLC) is all about making sure teens have a voice in decisions that affect us. Right now, our members are focused on two main issues we care about:
- Teen Dating Violence Prevention – helping everyone understand what healthy relationships look like
- Supporting Marginalized People – making sure everyone in our community feels included and valued
We’re working together with adult mentors to create real solutions and share important information about these topics. We’d love to hear your ideas and have you join us in making a difference!

Teen Night Out
The Youth Leadership Council hosts free Teen Night Out events every other month, and all students in grades 7-12 are invited!
Come hang out with us for a fun evening featuring:
- Snacks
- Open gym time to shoot hoops or just chill
- Cool crafts you can take home
- Interesting guest speakers
- Fun activities about healthy relationships
Our YWCA adult staff make sure everyone stays safe while having a great time. It’s the perfect place to meet new friends and just be yourself!
