Learn to be an advocate in your community.
An advocate supports, recommends, or argues for a cause, policy, or another person’s interests. Advocates can help people feel heard, respected, and informed, as well as help them access services and understand their options.

Carla is a social worker turned professional human rights advocate and community organizer turned diversity and inclusion trainer as part of ELCA Lutheran Justice Ministries for the Delaware, Maryland, and Central PA region. Also a former Poet Laureate and spoken word writer/performer, Carla uses storytelling and the building of empathy and relationships to train community-based changemakers and motivate community leaders for positive change.

Following the speaker, participants are invited to join us for YWCA Hanover’s Downtown Beautification project which is an ongoing Upstander’s initiative. (bags and gloves provided).
